Message from the Organizers
|
Recently, Northeast Asia has been the focus of worldwide attention, with progress beginning to be made in the Sakhalin energy development projects, deliberations concerning the Eastern Siberia energy pipeline plan starting, and advances in China's northeastern development policy.
We are entering an age in which a multilateral cooperative framework, such as the EU or ASEAN, will be necessary in order to continue to develop this region and build an economic bloc. It is hoped that we will be able to form an effective economic subregion by combining the resources of each country and region, but in order to do this, it will be necessary to draw up a vision of the path that Northeast Asia should take in the future and solve common problems in the region.
Amid this situation, the Northeast Asia Economic Conference Organizing Committee, which brings together representatives of governments, businesses, research institutions and international institutions from the countries of the region, is continuing to undertake activities aimed at promoting research and multilateral cooperation in the fields of transport, the environment, trade and investment, and energy. Based on the Organizing Committeefs discussions, Niigata Prefecture, Niigata City, the Japan Sea Coastal Region Promotion League, ERINA, the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of Niigata Prefecture and the Niigata Association of Corporate Executives are holding the 15th Northeast Asia Economic Conference in Niigata this year.
We look forward to a broad range of participation from those involved in the formation of the Northeast Asia Economic Subregion, including those connected with the formulation of the economic development vision, international cooperation in the fields of transport, the environment and energy, and economic exchange with the countries of continental Northeast Asia.

Objectives |

The dissemination of information To disseminate information that will be of use in promoting economic exchange by bringing together experts from the countries and regions of Northeast Asia in order to hold concrete discussions of various economic issues, with the aim of contributing to the formation and development of the Northeast Asia Economic Subregion. |

Policy research and proposals To hold discussions by experts with regard to specific fields, verifying the content of past proposals and grasping current problem areas, and to set out new subjects for discussion and policy proposals aimed at future multilateral cooperation. |
|
Opportunities for business interaction To promote both the provision of information to businesspeople and the exchange of information between entrepreneurs, and to link this to an expansion in economic interaction within the Northeast Asian region. |
